10 Artsy Things About You

Sun Dec 13, 2009, 5:56 PM

  • Reading: Diary- Chuck Palahniuk
Share ten artsy facts about yourself! If you can't think of ten, then feel free to share 1, 2, 3, 4, or 9.68. These facts can be anything artsy, in relation to music, drawing, writing, clothing making, frustrations in art, favorite artists, etc.

This is just another one of those journals where I get to learn a little bit about YOU! I think it' small things like this that can be more revealing about someone, rather than the simple things like favorite color, food, etc.

As an example, I'll list a couple from me:

1. My teachers (especially my figure teacher) tend to get frustrated with me because I love including lots or reflective light in drawings, and because I love to exaggerate dark shades.
2. In relation to dark shades, or even colors, I love to make lightest lights and darkest darks in blocks, especially in full tonal, values drawings- thus the reason to why I tend to color hair in solid blacks, whites, or in blocks of colors.
3. I tend to use clashing colors in finished pieces that are very bright, but my favorite color scheme in the world is white, black, and red. But I rarely use it in my art.
4. I love contrasts (ie happy sounding music with melancholy lyrics). Which is why I like to use bright colors in character work, as my characters themselves are fairly dark
5. I love old movies (some of my favorites are Some Like it Hot, The Big Sleep, and Modern Times), classic pinups and burlesque, 1940s and 50s swing, and 1950s fashion, makeup and, more modern, tattoo and graffiti art. I tend to incorporate aspects of at least one of them into my personal pieces and designs (Harlow was heavily influenced by these things)
6. I'm very music oriented, and personal pieces are almost always inspired by songs (this is evident in my gallery, as the pieces are usually titled after the songs they're inspired by, and sometimes even contain lyrics from the said song).
7. I don't usually ink my drawings, and if I do, then I ink them last, after color has already been applied.
8. I love figure drawing and portraiture, probably because I love seeing differences in people, and I take the time to do it at least once weekly, even if I don't have it as an assigned class.
9. My favorite kind of art to look at is photography, and one of my favorite photographers is Diane Arbus.
10. I am not fond of anime/manga- some is done beautifully and I am fine with the genre, but my love of differentiating facial features/body types keeps me from fully appreciating it.

Your turn!

Alright fellas. I will be doing a livestream tonight at 9 pm pacific time. This will not, in any way, be cancelled. To make up for cancelling the last one, this one will have Noah in it. Pinky swear. I don't know how long it will be going for, but seeing as it's going to be a final for a class, I'll have it up for quite a while.

It will be right here, at 9 pacific, homies: [link]

This is still not cancelled! Just up an hour and a half late de to horrid computer trouble! It is finally going up right now. Sorry about any inconvenience!

Livestream?

A few people I watch do livestreams, and they're really neat. I haven't been updating on here at all due to busy schedule and being slow with working on the stuff that eventually will be uploaded on this site, and you all are so patient with me for it. So I was thinking of maybe doing a livestream so that you guys can actually see something artsy going on aside from my updated-daily-sketchblog that I've mentioned previously.

Would any of you be at all interested if I did do a livestream/ustream where you could watch me draw? If so what times/days/etc would you like best for one? I would probably be doing something from start to finish (or at least almost finish) if I do do one, and while they wouldn't be super elaborate pieces, I'd make them nice enough to post on here. I'm just trying to think of ways that would keep this account active between the bigger stuff that takes much longer for me to do, or that gets put aside for school work.

So. Long story short: Pibity doing a livestream. Yes or no?

Secret Santa?

I'm still getting back to comments in last journal, so if I haven't responded, I will soon!

Anyone interested in doing some secret santa-ing? I know I am, and if you participate, I might get YOU! Or someone else, you know. But either way, it's all in good fun, and the more the merrier. If you're interested, check out :iconloremjay: journal, here: [link]

Everyone would love to open up drawings of their characters on Christmas day, even if you don't celebrate Christmas :)

Characters and Tattoos

Still going through and responding to comments from my last journal (I'm getting back to all who replied).
But now, this is the IMPORTANT question.

Do any of your chaaracters have tattoos? Where are they? What are they of? How many are there, or are there so many merging together that they all just become one huge one? Is there a story behind it?

If you haven't realized yet, I love learning about other people's characters, as well as the people who watch me :)
